While waiting for the formation of a regional government after the elections of June 2024, the Council took the initiative of coordinating a first Brussels Multilingualism Week. Together with nearly 100 partners and in collaboration with the Brussels Capital Region and the City of Brussels, it organized from 9 to 14 February 2026 both public and internal activities aimed at celebrating Brussels’ linguistic diversity and promoting multilingualism. A second edition is being planned for 15-20 February 2027.
The full programme of the 2026 edition remains accessible, so as to provide inspiration for the next one and encourage contact with the organizers. For some of the debates that took place at the Bourse on 13 and 14 February, ppt presentations were made. They can be downloaded here. And a novel way of capturing language diversity in the 19 municipalities of the Brussels region by exploiting social media data was presented at one of the sessions. Some of the results are presented here.
